Greenwich Skills Academy Recap

October 23, 2023

In erstwhile times, travel basketball concluded at the end of July. Present day, travel basketball has become a year long ordeal that seems to only subside when student athletes are engaged with their respective scholastic programs .

With SticksSkillsTraining on location at Sacred Heart Greenwich a handful of prospects from NJ, NY, CT and MA got together for a little preseason tune-up.

BIG BUSINESS

Most camps and clinics are riddled with point guard after point guard however, the depth at the front court position this past weekend was remarkable. Gil St Bernard standout Sidney Quinn ’25 displayed a basketball acumen that will allow her to make an immediate impact in the Patriot League for the Naval Academy in the fall of 2025. Her basketball IQ coupled with her size and skill makes her college ready right away. Savannah Seawell ’25 from Montclair HS (NJ) was also impactful. She made her presence known with relentless interior play and converting tough put backs.

Floor Generals

Grace Lanier25 and Emma Olausson ’25 set the tempo for the guard play during live scrimmage. In a loaded 2025 class both could be two of the regions sleepers at the guard position. Kyley Gary-Grayson ’25 of West Orange HS (NJ) might be another flying under the radar

Young Guns

2027 G/F Alexa Huckaby will be one to keep an eye on over the next few years at Hamden Hall Academy (CT) .

While the grassroots basketball landscape in this day and age seems to be ever-changing there is one thing that is always constant. That one thing is nothing other than the need for prospective student-athletes to acquire sound fundamentals. I’ll be tracking their respective growth and development of these fundamentals as #TheSticksReport will be on hand at numerous scholastic events this season
